  • The Gadwal sarees are woven traditionally in the interlocked weft technique known as Kuppadam or Kotakomma, therefore they are also known as Kotakomma or Kumbam sarees. The patterns are heavily traditional with motifs of mango or paisleys, elephants, peacocks, flowers, temple borders, and other typical south Indian aesthetics. The center of the pallu and the border is woven in a heavy jacquard weave giving the saree a rich and luxurious feel. The body of the saree is interspersed with zari buttis. The Gadwal saree are primarily worn as festive and ceremonial wear and the choice of saree when visiting religious places. It is also a popular choice owing to it’s lightweight.
